Having just recently relocated to Wakefield, It is surprising to me that the town has been stagnant in its downtown revitalization. There is no compelling reason to come to the center. The town governance seems to be concerned, but ambivalent to any effort that they doesn't present itself directly to them.
I wonder if anyone has chased a carefully curated set of independent retail, services, arts, or any other culturally relevant tenants to redefine the center of town. Isn't anyone aware that the facades of the existing businesses need sprucing up? Has the town offered any sort of financial incentive to accomplish this?
Recently, there was a proposal to allow a senior living facility to occupy a large parcel near the common. Just what any town needs, seniors as catalyst for revitalization. I don't know who's running things, but I am becoming more curious by the day.
